Decided to try and start keeping track of my reading on here, since I keep forgetting to add/review books on Goodreads and my posts on Tumblr aren't dated or tagged, so swiftly vanish into the aether. 

Most recently, I read Neanderthal Opens The Door To The Universe. 4/5 overall, plenty of cliches but it did make me very emotional and it handled a storyline I usually hate in a way I surprisingly didn't. Or maybe not surprisingly, considering the storyline was a queer one and it turned out the author was queer; that also might explain why overall it handled queer stuff in a casually decent way that made it stand out a bit, even though the two main characters appeared to be straight & cis. Good read if you like YA contemporary stuff in general; it also reminded me a bit in tone of Going Bovine but less fantastical. 

Currently I got my hands on The Bear and the Nightingale and Ace of Shades, and am currently deciding which to read next. Further bulletins as events warrant.

i'm currently about halfway through the bear and the nightingale and it's great so far! of course, i dont know how similar your taste is to mine, but still. i hope you enjoy it!

A buddy from Tumblr is reading through as well and said he liked it so far, so my hopes are tentatively up! Still not sure whether I'll try it or AoS first, though. I'll probably decide tomorrow.

I am a fanatical reader but my library is fairly limited *cough* crime *cough* so it would be nice to see what you read and how (or not) it was good :)

thanks for your interest! I'm going through a bit of a slow time right now, but I did recently read The Fever King and I'd recommend picking it up if you can! It's emotionally harsh, but a very good read with gay & bi main characters.

I got some bad news recently so I will be dodging emotional books for a little while (I might just sink into a Dr Seuss comfort-zone) but I have heard other people mention that book before so it will definitely go on my wish list.

The 'emotional harshness' is it more 'make you sad' or 'make you angry' or 'oooh Buuuurn! OMG they did not just say that, I'm offended on the fictional characters behalf' sort of emotion?

definitely more the first two than the latter? It takes place during a plague and there's immigration issues going on, plus one of the major characters has undergone abuse, so a lot of mixed anger + sadness emotions. But it was definitely handled well. I can absolutely understand taking a break from emotionally upsetting reads, tho.
